Op zaterdag 9 mei organiseert de internationale, overkoepelende organisatie voor IJslandse honden ISIC een online lezing over (schapen)drijven met IJslandse honden. Een aanrader voor als je interesse hebt om met je IJslandse hond aan het werk te gaan, maar graag iets meer achtergrondinfo wilt hebben. Luister vervolgens naar spreker Riika Kivirinta uit Finland, dé expert op dit gebied. De lezing wordt in het Engels gehouden en de volgende zaken komen aan bod:
“History of the Icelandic Sheepdog is combined with herding, be it with sheep, cows or other animals and it is still something we wish to preserve in the breed. So what is the style of herding with Icelandics? How do they use their voice? What kind of movements does it make? Is even a colour a factor? All this we will go through in the lecture with me on the 9th of May!
And who is me? Well, I am Riika Kivirinta from Finland. I have been herding with an Icelandic well over a decade and I am also a judge in FCI-TS herding trials. I have made two dogs a herding champion in Finland and trialed a third in the highest class three. I have seen so many icies working the sheep over the years, so I have a really good understanding of our lovely breed and its way of working.”
